Additional information of use to students/parents during study:

This GCSE qualification involves the study of three components.

  • Component 1: Religious, Philosophical and Ethical Studies in the Modern World which involves the study of four themes: human relationships, life and death, good and evil and human rights.
  • Component 2: Study of Christianity
  • Component 3: Study of Islam.

Students will grapple with many of life’s ‘big’ ethical questions and explore the philosophical meaning behind religious beliefs and practices. Students will develop an in-depth understanding of philosophy, ethics and religious belief. The course promotes critical thinking, empathy and problem-solving.

A Level Philosophy

This A Level qualification involves the study of four components.

  1. Epistemology
  2. Moral philosophy
  3. Metaphysics of God
  4. Metaphysics of mind

Philosophy is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence and explores questions such as: ‘What can we know?’, ‘What do concepts such as good, bad, right or wrong really mean?’ Students will also examine whether the concept of God is incoherent.
