Would you like to Host a French Exchange Student?
Please enter an introduction for your news story here.
WHEN? Maybe you could be a host family to one of our eleven French exchange students who are coming to Netherthorpe from 7th to 11th May. They are all from our link school in Brittany – Collège Jeanne d’Arc, Fougères.
WHY? A host family often gains just as much as they give. By hosting an exchange student, you begin to see daily life through new eyes and the cultural interaction you get is more valuable than ever in today’s world. Relationships with people from other countries develop empathy and understanding, and, as parents, you can model exactly what it looks like to embrace differences. This experience shapes the worldview of our young people, as they learn about and “adopt” somebody who from a different culture into their own family. Over the years, host families report an ongoing relationship with their French student that far outlasts the exchange visit itself. Such Anglo-French family connections are simply unique. During their time here, there are opportunities for social activities for your child held jointly with French students, as well as a chance to improve your French and your child’s French too!
HOW? The French students do not need any special treatment. What they need is a warm, supportive “home away from home” experience where they feel safe and where they can be themselves
WHAT DOES IT TAKE? All you need is a spare bed (a mattress on the floor of your child’s bedroom can free up a bed), an open heart and a desire to be involved! Students come with their own spending money and insurance. You provide bed, breakfast and evening meals, help with local transportation, and (most importantly) the support of a family
