27th March Email Update from Headteacher Re:Weekly email

27th March 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope this email finds you and your families well.

I am intending to send you a weekly email just to update you on the work we are doing to support your children during this difficult period of time.

Show My Homework

As you are aware, this is the platform that is being used to put work on for your children to complete.  There is a large amount in place at the moment and I just wanted to clarify a few things with you:

  • Students are advised to follow their timetables on a daily basis as this is the best way of managing the work that has been put on.  Some of this is for a period of 12 weeks, and therefore we do not want individual children to be overwhelmed by this.
  • Where possible, staff will answer questions but this may take a couple of days for this to happen as they have their own commitments at home e.g. looking after their own children
  • If there are issues accessing Show My Homework, please contact the school and we will endeavour to sort out these issues as soon as possible.
  • It is important that your child also stays active during this period of time, so we would also encourage all students to participate in some physical activity everyday, especially since the weather has been much improved recently.

GCSE/A Level Enquiries

An email was sent out earlier this week with the guidance that we have received so far in relation to this.  At this point, we have not been given any further information.  As soon as we are aware of the exact methods that will be used, we will communicate this with you.  I understand that this is an extremely stressful time whilst we are waiting for this information but we will do our best to ensure our students get the results they deserve.

6th Form - September 2020

If your child has applied to the 6th Form at Netherthorpe, they should have received a message stating that the offer of a place is now unconditional and we will be accepting all students who have applied in September.  If your child has not applied but wishes to return to the school, then please contact Mr Green or Mr Mason.  Their email addresses are on the school website.

Free School Meals Vouchers

We have purchased Morrison's Vouchers for our students who have free school meals.  This is to a value of £25 (for two weeks up to Easter) and there are a number that have not yet collected them.  Please contact the school if you have any issues collecting these and we will try and support getting them to you.  The Government have stated that they are looking at putting a national scheme in place but there has been no further announcements at this stage.

Re-Opening/Easter Provision

There have been a number of parents asking when the school will re-open or whether we will have provision available for key workers over the Easter break.  No decision has yet been made about either of these.  Again, we will be in contact with you as soon as we are aware.

Social Gatherings of Children

We are aware that in some areas of the country, a significant number of children have been gathering in social groups whilst not being at school.  It is important that the guidance given by the Government is followed and that they stay at home where possible.

General Enquiries

There are staff in school everyday to answer any questions you may have or deal with any concerns.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any assistance.  From next week, the reception will be operated by members of the Senior Leadership Team, so please be patient and leave a message if you are not able to get through first time.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support.  We have had a number of very positive messages sent into school from parents and this is much appreciated.  Please stay safe, follow the Government guidelines and we will look forward to seeing you and your children fit and healthy, when we are able to return.

With very best wishes

Dave
