Introduction to how computers work, this includes:

  • A look into the history of Computer Science.
  • What’s inside a Computer?
  • Binary logic.
  • What is a network?
  • Introduction to programming.

Term 3

Using technology in the modern world. This includes:

  • eSafety
  • Information reliability and bias.
  • Digital security.
  • Navigating the online world.

Year 8

Term 1

  • Python Programming Part 1
  • Creating vector images.

Term 2

  • Web design using HTML.
  • Digital literacy Part 2. Using software to present information.

Term 3

  • How computers work part 2. A deeper look at computer systems.
  • Computers in the modern work.  Understanding the legal, moral, social and ethical issues around technology.

Year 9

Term 1

  • Creating bitmap images (image creation using photoshop).

Term 2

  • Python Programming Part 2.
  • Digital literacy Part 3. Using software to present information.

Term 3

  • How computers work part 3. A deeper look at computer systems preparing students for GCSE Computer Science.

KS4 - ICT

OCR Cambridge Nationals Creative iMedia Level 1/2 Certificate

Additional information of use to students/parents during study

OCR Cambridge Nationals Creative iMedia Level 1/2 Certificate consists of 3 pieces of coursework and a final exam. Students develop their digital media editing skills to produce images, movies and other media related digital content.

Revision packs will be given to students when starting the course in year 10.

BTEC Nationals Information Technology Extended Certificate

Additional information of use to students/parents during study:

In year one you will study two units and achieve the certificate qualification. This includes one internally assessed coursework piece (Unit 3: Social Media in Business) and one practical external assessment (Unit 2: Creating Systems to Manage Information). In year two you will complete one course piece (Unit 6: Website Development) and one external examination (Unit 1: Information Technology Systems).

Students are given revision material in their first year to support with both external assessments.
