As one student put it – it’s a year like no other! Earlier in the year as students had their hastily compiled final day in March, many left the school with a feeling these were the results they had worked hard to get but had not in fact earned. Yet it is in times of adversity true character prevails and Netherthorpe Sixth Form students took it upon themselves to help in the community, as key workers, some made sure food was supplied to the most in need, raising money to deliver before the lock down began. These young people stepped up to help and take their place in the community, at home and in a range of circumstances, during these difficult times, without the normality that education and examinations has befitted generations before.  Today the students receive these grades, earned through the learning and hard work to succeed. Students from the Sixth Form at Netherthorpe School in Staveley were today celebrating an excellent set of ‘A’ level, Cambridge Technical and BTEC qualification results, but they also walk out of the school having stepped up when needed, delivered their bit, in their way.

The results meant that students were offered places in top universities across the country as well as a wide range of apprenticeships with local, national and international organisations, including at higher level Apprenticeship programmes.

To name just a few of those celebrating top grades are Jessica Blackburn, Amelia Cheswick, Niamh Foster, Abigail Hahn, Hoi Ian Lei, Lewis Marsh, Noe Mougou, Alicia Raybould, Georgia Rose, Nathan Sawyer and Amber smith

Headteacher Dave Williams commented: “We are proud of each and every student, more so this year given the courage shown by this year group in these difficult times. This is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the students and staff here at Netherthorpe. I wish all our students well in the future, whether at university, under taking apprenticeships or in the world of work.”
